World Book Day
We have celebrated today throughout the day with a variety of activities. Everyone enjoyed drawing around their handprints to fill in the HUGE colour monster on the playground. We voted for whether we prefer fiction of non-fiction books. We have discussed feelings and what can make us feel those emotions. We were very excited to join a webinar with the author Michael Morpurgo who has written 150 and books. He read an extract from the Butterfly Lion to us and answered questions. We enjoyed using pastels to create our own colour monster in Art.
We have been sharing our Greek myths with each other and giving our feedback.
Maths - We have been learning how to work out the perimeter of a shape. Here we are using lollipop sticks to measure.
Science
We have continued working on our science fair projects this term - squashed tomatoes. The overall theme is Engineering.
Real life problem - In Nepal many farmers living on the mountainside grow fruit and vegetables, including tomatoes. To earn a living, they need to sell these at the local market. The problem is getting to market involves a long, dangerous walk down the mountain side and over a river, at the end of which the tomatoes may well be a bit squashed.
The challenge - Can you design, make and test a model to transport tomatoes down a mountainside in Nepal without squashing them?
DT
This term we will be exploring and investigating pneumatics - using air to make things move.
Eucalyptus - Finished Moving Monsters
Magnolia - Finished Moving Monsters
Art
Final part of completing our Greek pots - adding the geometric designs.
