Term 5 - Fantastic Faringdon
Click on the 'Topic Overview' below to find out what we will be learning this term. We will add photos from some of our learning across the term.
Home Learning Challenges
We had some fantastic pieces of home learning challenges last term for 'Marvellous Mexico'. We were so impressed!
Please see the link below for this terms home learning challenges. As well as these, we will continue to set two challenges on PurpleMash every two weeks. There will also be challenges on PurpleMash that are repeated activities.
Have fun completing these home learning challenges with your children. Children need to choose 3 of the challenges to complete across this term (5 weeks).
Once completed, the challenges can be handed in via class email or handed in to your childs class teacher.
Week 3 - 16th to 20th May
As part of our Ogden Trust Partnership we are entering science fair competition. This week children in Year 1 and Year 2 (KS1), spent two days carrying out an investigation and creating either a poster or small display to show what they have been doing, how they did it and what the results were. The investigation was:
Do each bag of skittles have the same number of each colour?
Children worked in pairs and were super scientists across the two days. They were encouraged to work as a team, ask questions, think of ideas, answer questions and much more.
What happens next: 3 winning pairs (6 children) will be chosen across KS1. Those children will have the opportunity to attend a science fair in June and display their exhibit along with other schools that have taken part.
Winners will be announced in due course and more details regarding the science fair to.
It has been a great opportunity for children to really get into the investigations and have the two days dedicated to this.
Week 2 - 2nd May to 6th May
We have been reading the story 'The Disgusting Sandwich' by Gareth Edwards. Last week, children designed their own disgusting sandwiches and this week they were able to make them! Included in their sandwiches were: goopy mud, creepy ants, slippery slug slime, crunchy sticks, green grass, dirty feathers, tooth-breaking stones, water and lots more. (of course not real ants or slugs were used in the process). They went outside to collect all the things they need and back inside they made their disgusting sandwiches. It was a lot of fun and a lot of mess!!! The children did wonder if they had to eat them for lunch! Take a look below at our creations.
