Monday
WALT use adjectives and write expanded noun phrases.
Listen to The Snail and The Whale story using the link above. Revisit the key features of a postcard from last week: address, greeting, closing, stamp, sender, main part. Remember, a postcard is a short piece of writing with informative sentences.
To begin with you will need to think about adjectives. What is an adjective? - describing word. Use PowerPoint and look at the picture: What adjectives could we use the describe the water? Clear, crystal clear, blue... Today we are focusing on describing the setting not the animals. Write adjectives for the setting in the picture on a piece of paper.
Now you will look at expanded noun phrases. Look at the PowerPoint to explain what it is and how to write one.
Now you can use your adjectives to write 4 or more expanded noun phrases.
Tuesday
WALT write a setting description.
Today we are going to write a setting description for a picture from The Snail and the Whale story. Use the PowerPoint to look at setting descriptions and why they are important. Explain how writers use the 5 senses to allow the reader to picture where they are there. It allows the reader to really use their imaginations to make the place real in their minds. Use pictures on PowerPoint and discus what you would hear, smell, taste, touch and see: write down some ideas for each sense. Using your 5 senses can you write a setting description for the picture on the PowerPoint.
Wednesday
WALT plan to write a postcard.
Listen/read The Snail and The Whale story. Revisit the key features of a postcard.
Today you are going to plan to write another postcard.
Imagine you are the snail and going to write a postcard telling the other snails about where you are.
Think about your five senses: what can you see, hear, taste, smell and feel? Think about what adjectives you could use. Use the planning sheet to help you plan your postcard.
Thursday
WALT write a postcard with the key features.
Today you are going to write a postcard pretending the be the snail. Listen to/read The Snail and The Whale story. Recap the features of a postcard. Using your plan from yesterday can you have a go at writing a postcard pretending you are the snail. Can you do this all by yourself. Try and remember all the features, use your senses and adjectives. You can use the template or make your own.
Friday
WALT re-read and edit work.
Look at PowerPoint and read postcard. Today you are going to spot the mistakes: can you check for capital letters, full stops, exclamation marks, finger space, question marks, does it make sense, can you add adjectives? It is important to read out aloud.
Now look at your own postcard. Can you check you have all of the above?
