Trip to the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford!

It was very exciting for the year three's this term as we went on our first school trip - for some of us, this would have been our first ever trip! We had lots of different activities to do in the museum: listening to an expert on Ancient Egypt, a treasure hunt looking at artefacts, "Holding History in our Hands" where children were able to touch and hold artefacts that were nearly 3000 years old! Finally, we were able to have some time to explore the museum with our teachers and teaching assistants and had a go at sketching the artwork on display. Have a look through our pictures and see if you can spot an addition to the trip from Willow Class...

    Our Egyptian Masks

In art we looked at Ancient Egyptian death masks and created our own!  We started off by learning about portraits and had a go at drawing a self-portrait.  Then we studied different masks and looked at the features and colours used.  We then used our history knowledge of the Ancient Egyptians to help us design our own mask and learnt how to use papier mache to create our masks.

    Mummifying Barbies!

As part of our Ancient Egyptian topic we have learnt about how and why the Ancient Egyptians took part in the process of mummification.  To help us remember all the steps, we had a go at mummifying some dolls!
